Prisoners' Club: 40 journalists in occupation prisons
The Palestinian Prisoners' Club announced that the number of journalists detained in occupation prisons has reached about 40, including 5 women, after the arrest of journalist Muhammad Awad from Ramallah. It noted that more than 250 journalists have been detained since the start of the war, and more than 260 have been killed, including 19 under administrative detention, calling on the international community to protect them.
The Palestinian Prisoners' Club announced that the number of journalists detained in Israeli occupation prisons has reached about 40, following the arrest of journalist Muhammad Awad from Ramallah on Wednesday morning. The club said in a press statement that among those currently detained are 5 female journalists, noting that documentation and monitoring operations have shown that more than 250 journalists have been arrested and detained since the start of the war on the Gaza Strip, including some who remain in detention and others who were later released. It added that more than 260 journalists have been killed since the start of the war, including two who died inside occupation prisons, while the fate of journalists Nidal al-Wahidi and Haitham Abdel Wahed remains unknown. The club pointed out that the occupation authorities target journalists in the West Bank through administrative detention, which is carried out without charge or trial under the pretext of a 'secret file', noting that 19 journalists are currently under administrative detention. The Prisoners' Club renewed its demand for the international human rights system to take effective action, end the state of paralysis, and work to ensure the protection of journalists and their right to practice their work without targeting or arrest.
