The Israeli Press and Media Council held a festive ceremony at Beit Ariela in Tel Aviv, awarding certificates of appreciation to dozens of journalists, photographers, and news personnel from all newsrooms in Israel. The recognition was given for their extraordinary work, courage, and professional dedication since the morning of October 7, 2023, and throughout the 'Swords of Iron' war. The winners were selected based on recommendations from media outlets and recipients of the Israel Prize for Journalism. Among the winners were five 'Israel Hayom' staffers: military correspondent Lilach Shoval, foreign news editor Dudi Kogan, Tel Aviv and central region reporter Avi Cohen, investigative reporter Itai Ilanai, and photographer Oren Ben Hakon. The President of the Press Council, retired Supreme Court Deputy President Prof. Hanan Melcer, delivered remarks emphasizing the importance of a free press as a pillar alongside security forces, and the commitment to presenting reality as it is. Aryeh Golan from Kan Reshet Bet also spoke on behalf of the winners, addressing professional challenges and the importance of a free press for democracy.
