The Histadrut, the General Federation of Labor, issued a sharp warning following reports of negotiations with a buyer who intends to cease flights on Saturdays and Jewish holidays. Deputy Chairman of the Transport Workers' Union, attorney Nir Eisenberg, sent a letter to the Nakash family, which holds a controlling stake, urging them to consider the consequences for the company and employees. The union believes that halting flights on Shabbat will hurt revenues and weaken Arkia's market position, threatening hundreds of jobs. Eisenberg stated: 'Observing Shabbat is a legitimate personal stance, but not a strategy for commercial aviation.' The Histadrut promised to use all legal measures if the deal threatens the company's operations and jobs.
