Pollution in Sde Dov: First Buyer Demands Cancellation of Apartment Option Deal

The Ministry of Environmental Protection approved marketing the land in Sde Dov as clean, but contamination was discovered after sales began. Now, a first buyer of an option to purchase a residential apartment is suing the real estate company Gindi, demanding to cancel the deal and refund about half a million shekels. The lawsuit was filed today (Monday) in the Tel Aviv District Court. The plaintiff claims that had information about soil contamination been presented to option buyers, they would not have purchased rights in the complex. The land was contaminated with PFAS, dangerous chemicals known as 'forever chemicals,' due to the site's use as an airfield. As early as 2022, the Water Authority clarified that wells in the area were contaminated, but the ministry had no policy for PFAS sampling and allowed marketing the land as clean. In 2025, tests began revealing abnormal concentrations. In July 2026, the ministry ordered the Tel Aviv municipality to stop infrastructure works. The plaintiff purchased the option in July 2025, before the extent of contamination was published. Gindi rejected the request to cancel the deal. The lawsuit claims that concealing information constitutes consumer deception. Gindi stated that the statement of claim had not yet been served to them.
