Political prisoner on hunger strike, refusing water and medication for fourth day

Prisoner Muhammad Omar Shihab (Al-Saqr), 60 years old, continues his hunger strike, refusing water and medication for the fourth consecutive day, in protest of his continued detention in Palestinian Authority prisons for over a year. The Committee of Families of Political Prisoners expressed grave concern over his health condition, noting that he suffers from chronic diseases including diabetes, asthma, shortness of breath, and rheumatism. The committee warned of the danger of continuing the strike to his life. The committee stated that Shihab spent 16 years in Israeli occupation prisons and was released on May 2, 2025, after detention lasting about a year and a half. The committee held the authorities responsible for his detention fully accountable for his safety, demanding his release and the provision of necessary healthcare. Human rights and civil calls continue to address the issue of political prisoners and end detention based on affiliation or political activity.
