Police stunned: tunnel for housing illegal residents found underground | First publication

In a police operation this morning in the Negev, officers from the Segev Shalom station raided an illegal gas station, a supermarket, and a wholesale business. Two illegal residents were arrested, another suspect was arrested on suspicion of assaulting an officer, and three were detained for questioning. At the business, sleeping quarters and an underground tunnel used to house illegal residents were found. About 6,500 liters of diesel, about 25 packs of counterfeit cigarettes, and about 14 kg of tobacco were seized, and violations of the Cash Law amounting to about 3.2 million shekels were suspected.

In a police operation conducted this morning (Thursday) in cooperation with the Southern District Attorney's Office, officers from the Segev Shalom station raided an illegal gas station, a supermarket, and a wholesale business. During the operation, two illegal residents from Judea and Samaria were arrested, another suspect was arrested on suspicion of assaulting an officer, and three additional suspects were detained for questioning. The operation was carried out with the cooperation of many enforcement agencies: the Real Estate Enforcement Unit, the Fuel and Gas Administration, the Tax Authority, the Consumer Protection Ministry, the Green Police, the Labor Ministry, the Electric Company, Fire and Rescue, and the Federation for Intellectual Property Enforcement. At the illegal gas station, a father and son were detained on suspicion of operating a station without a business license, and the Fuel and Gas Administration pumped about 6,500 liters of diesel from the site. The Real Estate Enforcement Unit demolished the station. At the supermarket, the Intellectual Property Enforcement Unit seized about 25 packs of counterfeit and smuggled cigarettes and about 14 kg of tobacco. At the wholesale business, sleeping quarters and an underground tunnel used to house illegal residents were found, and two illegal residents were arrested there. A Tax Authority audit raised suspicion of Cash Law violations amounting to about 3.2 million shekels. Segev Shalom station commander, Superintendent Eli Cohen, said that the fight against crime generators is not limited to criminal enforcement alone, and that the combined activity demonstrates the cooperation between the police and enforcement and regulatory bodies.
