Police: Murder of illegal resident near Shomriya solved

Israel Police announced today (Wednesday) the completion of the investigation and the solving of an incident suspected as the murder of a resident of the territories near the seam line in the Shomriya area, which occurred last July. According to the police statement, the suspect, a resident of the territories, was driving illegal residents and later, according to suspicion, struck them with his vehicle, causing the death of one of them. According to the investigation by the Central Unit of the Rotem District, the suspect struck three illegal residents with his vehicle near Shomriya on the seam line. As a result of the impact, one of them was critically injured and later pronounced dead at the scene. Two others were moderately injured and evacuated for medical treatment at Soroka Medical Center. After the incident, the suspect fled the scene. After two days of manhunt and intensive investigative activity by Rotem District detectives, the suspect, a 24-year-old resident of Dura in the territories, himself an illegal resident, was arrested in Be'er Sheva. During the operation, the vehicle suspected of being used in the offense was also located under a water pipe. Yesterday, after the completion of the investigation and the formation of the evidentiary basis against the suspect, the Southern District Prosecutor's Office filed a prosecutor's statement with the court in Be'er Sheva, ahead of filing an indictment for murder and other offenses, with a request to detain the suspect until the end of proceedings. Deputy Superintendent Dudu Avraham, commander of the Central Unit of the Rotem District, commented on the investigation: "This is a complex investigation conducted with determination, professionalism, and speed." He added that "the combination of operational and investigative capabilities of the unit's detectives led within a short time to locating the suspect, arresting him, and forming a significant evidentiary basis." Avraham said: "We will continue to act without compromise against criminals who harm human life and bring them to justice."
