On the evening of August 17, on the Greek island of Sifnos in the Aegean Sea, a private light helicopter Bell 206 crashed into a residential area. Three people were on board — preliminarily, two men and one woman — all of them died. The aircraft was on a flight from Markopoulo to Sifnos and fell in a populated area near the local helipad during its approach to landing. A strong fire broke out at the crash site, which local residents tried to extinguish in the first minutes. Fortunately, destruction and injuries among local residents were avoided. Two firefighters from among the local residents were the first to help, later a rescue group arrived on a speedboat from the neighboring island of Syros. Eyewitnesses note that a loud uncharacteristic noise was heard a few seconds before the fall. The causes of the crash and the identities of the victims are being established by the competent authorities. The information was disseminated by Greek media Ekatimerini and ERT.
