On the evening of August 17, a private light helicopter, a Bell 206, crashed into a residential area on the Greek island of Sifnos in the Aegean Sea. Three people were on board — reportedly two men and one woman — and all were killed. The aircraft was flying from Markopoulo to Sifnos and crashed in a populated area near the local helipad during its approach to landing. A strong fire broke out at the crash site, which local residents initially tried to extinguish. Fortunately, there was no damage or injuries among local residents. Two firefighters from among the locals were the first to help, and later a rescue team arrived on a speedboat from the neighboring island of Syros. Witnesses noted that a loud, unusual noise was heard a few seconds before the crash. The cause of the crash and the identities of the victims are being determined by the competent authorities. The information was reported by Greek media Ekatimerini and ERT.
