Parking in Jerusalem to get sharply more expensive - who will have to pay more

Starting August 11, parking at municipal lots in Jerusalem will become more expensive: in the center, the hourly rate will rise from 18 to 22 shekels, and in other areas from 12 to 15. For residents with the 'Jerushalmi' discount, the price will remain 11 shekels, and in Talpiot it will stay at 12. Authorities explain the increase as a way to reduce demand and encourage public transportation.

Starting August 11, new parking rates will take effect at municipal parking lots in Jerusalem. In the city center, the hourly rate will increase from 18 to 22 shekels (an increase of about 22%), and in other areas from 12 to 15 shekels (a 25% increase). The changes will affect parking lots managed by the 'Eden' company. For Jerusalem residents with the 'Jerushalmi' discount, the price will remain at 11 shekels per hour. An exception is made for the Talpiot area, where the rate of 12 shekels will be maintained until infrastructure work is completed. The municipality explains the increase as a desire to reduce demand for parking in congested areas and encourage the use of public transportation, as well as rising parking maintenance costs. The main burden will fall on those coming from other cities. A similar increase occurred in Tel Aviv-Yafo on August 1: for residents, the hourly rate rose from 5 to 6 shekels, and for visitors from 20 to 24 shekels.
