The case stems from the tragic deaths of four children that occurred between July 2024 and September 2025 in Texas, North Carolina, Minnesota, and Tennessee. The lawsuit is filed with the support of the Social Media Victims Law Center (SMVLC). The plaintiffs allege that the corporations knew about the risks but ignored expert warnings and concealed evidence. The algorithms kept users engaged by showing minors content about extreme diets and unhealthy comparisons. The proceedings became possible due to the disclosure of internal documents in other cases. Google expressed condolences and stated it collaborates with pediatricians; the other companies have not commented so far.
