Parents of girl who committed suicide after bullying file massive lawsuit: 'The education system ignores its duty'
The parents of Adva Weinblum Ovadia, a 13-year-old who took her own life about a year and a half ago, have filed a lawsuit of approximately 16 million shekels against the Ministry of Education, the Acre Municipality, the school, and the Ort network, as well as against the Amidar company. The lawsuit claims that the defendants failed to prevent bullying and ostracism, and that the system ignored its duty to protect the girl.
The parents of Adva Weinblum Ovadia, a 13-year-old, filed a lawsuit yesterday (Wednesday) for approximately 16 million shekels in the Tel Aviv District Court. The lawsuit was filed against the Ministry of Education, the Acre Municipality, the school she attended, and the Ort network, as well as against the Amidar company, which the mother claims did not handle her request to install bars on the sixth-floor apartment window from which Adva jumped to her death. The lawsuit states that the defendants are jointly and severally responsible for the heavy disaster that occurred as a direct result of their negligence and failures. It also claims that Adva, a sensitive girl on the autism spectrum, suffered for years from bullying and ostracism, and that the system that was supposed to protect her did nothing to eradicate the phenomenon. The lawsuit describes how Adva, unaware of the consequences of her actions, was 'pushed' by the defendants' failures to her end, and jumped from her apartment window. The family remains bereaved in its grief.
