Palestinian and international skepticism over the occupation's investigation into the martyrdom of Hind Rajab
Palestinians and international parties are skeptical of the Israeli occupation army's criminal investigation into the martyrdom of child Hind Rajab and six of her family members and paramedics, considering the internal investigations not independent and coming under international pressure, and demanding an independent international investigation.
The Israeli occupation army announced the opening of a criminal investigation into the martyrdom of child Hind Rajab and six of her family members and the paramedics who went to rescue her in Gaza on January 29, 2024, more than two and a half years after the crime. However, the announcement was met with widespread Palestinian and international skepticism, as human rights officials and relevant institutions considered it an insufficient step, demanding an independent international investigation. Shawan Jabarin, the general director of Al-Haq human rights organization, said the investigation cannot be considered a step towards justice, stressing that investigations into war crimes must be independent of the accused party. He noted that the timing of opening the investigation after international pressure raises questions about its true motives, whether it is a response to justice or an attempt to contain repercussions. The Hind Rajab Foundation, based in Brussels, announced it does not trust Israeli investigations, citing the case of Shireen Abu Akleh and the record of Israeli investigations which showed that 88% of investigations were closed without proving a violation. The foundation called for continuing international accountability paths, including the International Criminal Court.
