‘Palestine Convoy’ from Srebrenica arrives in Istanbul
The Palestine Convoy arrived in Istanbul on Thursday after departing Saturday from Srebrenica in Bosnia and Herzegovina, passing through Albania and Greece, with about 60 activists from European countries. The convoy was welcomed in Başakşehir with a mass festival, and executive committee member Hakan Şimşek gave a speech criticizing the “Zionist system” and displacement policies in the West Bank, stressing that the convoy carries aid and the hopes of Palestinians and aims to hold those responsible for the wounds accountable.
The “Palestine Convoy” arrived in Istanbul on Thursday after a journey that began Saturday from the city of Srebrenica in Bosnia and Herzegovina, passing through Albania and Greece, with the participation of about 60 activists from various European countries. The convoy, consisting of buses and cars, was welcomed in the Başakşehir district of Istanbul by a group waving Turkish and Palestinian flags, and a mass festival was organized in the square of the Central Başakşehir Mosque, where participants chanted slogans such as “From Istanbul to Gaza… greetings to the resistance,” “Murderer Israel.. get out of Palestine,” and “Death to America.” Executive committee member Hakan Şimşek gave a speech criticizing the “Zionist system,” accusing it of implementing a displacement policy in the West Bank aimed at expanding attacks on Gaza to include all Palestinian territories, and noted that Israel is carrying out forced displacement policies through armed groups known as “settlers,” and that gardens and homes are being violated and confiscated. Şimşek stressed that the convoy is not just an aid convoy, but represents a new model of civil action, carries the hopes of Palestinians, and aims to demonstrate the failure of the international system in applying international law.
