Dvir Kariv, a former senior Shin Bet official who served for 23 years in the organization, announced his joining of the Yisrael Beiteinu party led by Avigdor Liberman. In an interview with 103fm, Kariv said the decision was not easy: he serves as a civics and democracy teacher in a high school, and lost seven of his students in the events of October 7. According to him, a close friend convinced him to enter politics, arguing that people have paid harder prices. Kariv warned of two major dangers: the weakening of Israeli democracy, which he claims has declined from liberal democracy to electoral democracy since 2023, and the rift in Israeli society. He expressed appreciation for Liberman for warning about Hamas that is not deterred, and described Yisrael Beiteinu as a home for people who want the state to rise again as a safe home for everyone.
