Maj. Gen. (Res.) Yitzhak Brick warns in an opinion piece that Israel is chronically late in preparing for wars due to a distorted security arrangement. According to him, long-term contracts with defense industries (such as Rafael, Israel Aerospace Industries, and Elbit) prevent the introduction of new and more effective weapons into the IDF until the contract is completed. Brick describes the Iranian threat: maneuvering and splitting hypersonic ballistic missiles, moving at enormous speeds and carrying warheads weighing hundreds of kilograms, for which neither Israel nor the US currently has an interceptor capable of hitting them. He notes that intelligence on these developments was known for over five years, but the IDF did not issue an operational requirement for a response. Brick, together with a group of experts, identified that the only solution is a powerful laser system with megawatt power, a technology that already exists in Israel. According to him, heads of the Directorate of Defense R&D and senior commanders were convinced of its effectiveness, but no one takes responsibility and there is no long-term strategic thinking. Brick states that the implications are fateful and abandon the Israeli home front.
