Only Anna Maria Survived the Earthquake Disaster: One of Triplet Sisters Remains

A 7.4 magnitude earthquake struck the city of Cali in Colombia, killing at least 294 people and injuring more than 3,900. Among the victims were two of a set of 23-year-old triplets, Isabella and Sofia, and their parents, Jairo Saavedra (63) and Victoria Caicedo (61). The third sister, Anna Maria, survived by taking shelter under a wooden table, and neighbors who rescued her heard her cries. She underwent surgery for a pelvic fracture and is recovering. The Israeli delegation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Home Front Command, led by Brigadier General Yossi Pinto, is operating in Cali in Operation "Brit Re'im" (Friendship Covenant), assisting in locating and rescuing trapped people and providing engineering advice at the university hospital. Ambassador Alon Lavi praised the cooperation with local authorities.
