On the way to the hospital: stopped by the roadside and delivered his wife
A Magen David Adom paramedic stopped the ambulance by the roadside and delivered his wife after labor progressed rapidly on the way to the hospital. Within minutes, their healthy daughter was born, and the mother and baby were evacuated for further tests in good condition.
Yitzhak Bendahan, a Magen David Adom paramedic from the Jerusalem district, was driving with his wife Yael to the hospital after she began having contractions. When he realized labor was progressing too fast to make it in time, he stopped by the roadside and delivered her in the ambulance. Within minutes, their healthy daughter was born, a baby girl who surprised the parents as they did not know her gender in advance. Yitzhak said: "When Yael told me she was about to give birth, I immediately stopped by the roadside... I just did what I know how to do." The mother and baby were evacuated to the hospital in good condition. MDA notes that its teams assist in hundreds of out-of-hospital births each year.
