A court affiliated with the Israeli occupation sentenced the Jerusalem child Ismail Muammar al-Khatib from the town of Hizma, northeast of occupied Jerusalem, to 45 days in prison, in addition to a fine of 2,000 shekels. This ruling comes in the context of escalating arrests of Palestinian children and their trials before occupation courts, particularly in occupied Jerusalem and the West Bank, amid harsh detention conditions and judicial procedures imposed on them. According to data from the Palestinian Prisoner's Club, at least 370 children and minors are held in occupation prisons, distributed among Ofer, Megiddo, and Damon prisons, out of more than 9,000 Palestinian prisoners and detainees. Specialized institutions documented 276 cases of child arrests in the West Bank and Jerusalem during the first half of 2026, while data from the Prisoners' Affairs Authority indicated that more than 1,700 children from the West Bank have been arrested since October 7, 2023, until last April. Prisoner institutions indicate that arrested children face difficult detention conditions including interrogation, trials, and the imposition of financial fines.
