Not far from the Turkish border: unusual airstrikes shook Syria
Several airstrikes were carried out overnight in northwestern Syria, about 70 kilometers from the Turkish border, according to multiple reports. An Al Jazeera correspondent reported that four strikes targeted the runway of a military base in the Idlib area. No official response was given by Syrian authorities, and the identity of the attacker remains unclear. The Lebanese Al Mayadeen channel raised the possibility that Israel is behind the strike, but no Israeli confirmation has been published.
During the night, several airstrikes were carried out in northwestern Syria, about 70 kilometers from the Turkish border, according to multiple reports. The Qatari Al Jazeera channel's correspondent reported that four strikes targeted the runway of a military base in the eastern countryside of Idlib. The channel's correspondent in Damascus noted that information about the incident is still scarce and that no official response was given by Syrian authorities. Other Arab media also reported that the strikes were carried out by "unidentified warplanes." The Lebanese Al Mayadeen channel, affiliated with Hezbollah, raised the possibility that Israel is behind the strike, but as of morning hours, no Israeli confirmation has been published. Abu al-Duhur airfield is located east of the city of Idlib and tens of kilometers from the border with Turkey. The base changed hands during the Syrian civil war, and in November 2024, rebel forces recaptured it as part of the offensive that led to the collapse of the Assad regime. Since Assad's fall, the area has been under the control of the new Syrian government forces led by Ahmed al-Sharaa. As of now, no reliable reports of casualties or the extent of damage have been published.
