Northern Israel light-rail project obtains finance

A consortium of banks led by Bank Leumi is providing NIS 10 billion in financing for the Nofit light-rail project linking Haifa, Nof Hagalil, and Nazareth. The main public transport project in northern Israel, the Nofit light-rail line, has secured financing. A consortium of banks led by Bank Leumi is providing NIS 4.6 billion for construction and NIS 5 billion for operations, totaling NIS 10 billion. The project, awarded to Electra, Minrav, and Alstom in 2024, will link Haifa, Nof Hagalil, and Nazareth over 41 km, serving 100,000 passengers daily. The Ministry of Transport plans 30 trains with a maximum four-minute interval, traveling up to 100 km/h on inter-city sections. Financing had been delayed due to the war, threatening postponement beyond 2030, but is now in place.
