The missiles were fired to a range of about 250 kilometers toward the eastern waters of North Korea. The drill came a day after the United States, South Korea, and Japan concluded a trilateral military exercise, which North Korea views as a provocation. US President Donald Trump ordered in August to reduce a large bilateral military exercise with South Korea, but North Korea rejected his offer. Experts assess that Kim Jong Un, emboldened by his advanced nuclear arsenal and ties with Russia and China, believes he has an advantage in diplomacy with the US.
