Nissim Mishal surprises Ze'ev Elkin's partner: 'He abandoned you'

In an interview with Nissim Mishal on 103FM, Minister Ze'ev Elkin was confronted with the claim that Gideon Sa'ar had abandoned him by not securing his place on the Likud list. Elkin responded that they did what was necessary to allow Sa'ar to fulfill his role as foreign minister, and expressed confidence in his chances in the primaries, citing support from mayors and 2,400 registered members. He also opposed renewing administrative detention for Israeli citizens.

Minister Ze'ev Elkin spoke with Nissim Mishal and Eli Davidov on 103FM ahead of the Likud primaries, scheduled for tomorrow. Mishal surprised Elkin by asking why Gideon Sa'ar, his political partner, had not secured his place on the Likud list as promised, telling him: "He abandoned you." Elkin replied, "We did what was necessary so that he could fulfill his role as foreign minister," and stressed that the decision on securing a place was Sa'ar's. The interviewers pressed, saying his chances in the primaries were slim, but Elkin expressed confidence, noting that he has been active in the Likud grassroots, received public support from mayors and national groups, and brought 2,400 people to the party registration drive. He also mentioned that he has mutual support agreements with other candidates. Elkin recalled that he had previously run in primaries and was elected in slots 7, 8, and 11. On another issue, he said he does not support renewing administrative detention for Israeli citizens, arguing that the tool is ineffective and that citizens beyond the Green Line should be treated with the same measures as those within it.
