A family source clarified that she did not drown and even managed to call for help, but her condition deteriorated during evacuation. Rachmany celebrated her 40th birthday six days before the tragedy and was supposed to leave for a couples' vacation in Paris with her husband Matthew that same day. She served as the math coordinator at the Hebrew Academy of the Five Towns and Rockaway elementary school. Her husband serves as the president of the Orthodox synagogue 'Irving Place Minyan' in Woodmere. At her funeral held on Sunday at Boulevard-Riverside Cemetery in Hewlett, her husband began his eulogy by reciting the poem 'A Woman of Valor' and wept. Her sister Dana eulogized her as an educator who saw potential in every child.
