New wave of IDF strikes in southern Lebanon: report of strike on Ali Taher ridge

The IDF began a new wave of strikes in southern Lebanon overnight (Sunday), following the Israeli response to a Hezbollah operation in which three soldiers were seriously wounded. Al Jazeera's correspondent reported that one of the strikes targeted the Ali Taher ridge, where the incident occurred. At this stage, no details were provided on the targets of the strikes or on casualties. The wave of strikes comes after the IDF struck Hezbollah infrastructure in the Nabatieh and Ansar areas over the weekend. The military said the strikes were carried out following the organization's operation against forces operating on the Ali Taher ridge, within the security zone under IDF control and in accordance with the ceasefire agreement. In one of the strikes, a central Hezbollah command post in Ansar was hit. The IDF announced that Ali Samir al-Hajj Hassan, a battalion commander in the Radwan force unit, was killed, along with other operatives. According to the IDF, Hassan's family members were with him at the command post and were harmed, but were not the target; the military claimed he used them as human shields. The Lebanese Health Ministry reported that 11 people were killed and 19 wounded in the strikes in Ansar and Deir al-Zahrani, including three children and two women. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Hezbollah violated the ceasefire, and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam condemned the strikes.
