New Record in UK Antisemitism Wave: Nearly Double Pre-October 7 Levels

A new report by the Community Security Trust (CST) documents 1,926 antisemitic incidents in the UK in the first half of 2026, the second-highest figure ever recorded for this period and a 21% increase from last year. The monthly average has surged to 321 incidents, nearly double the pre-October 7 average of 161. The report warns that antisemitism has become entrenched at an unprecedentedly high level and is no longer a temporary reaction. The escalation occurred against the backdrop of the war between Israel, the United States, and Iran that began on February 28, and following an espionage case in which two individuals were accused of gathering intelligence on Jewish institutions for Iran. The report records a record 135 physical attacks, an 82% increase, and 680 online incidents, the highest ever documented. Community institutions have been severely affected: 117 incidents against synagogues and 178 in the education system. Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp described antisemitism as a 'national emergency', and Police Minister Sarah Jones promised protection, following the allocation of £250 million for the security of Jewish institutions.
