New Poll in Iran: Support for Netanyahu and Hatred of Putin

A new poll by the Dutch research institute GAMAAN, published on Channel 14, reveals surprising data on Iranian public opinion after the January protests and the military campaign against Israel and the US. The data shows that 51% of Iranians have a positive attitude towards Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, while 73% express a negative attitude towards Russian President Vladimir Putin – who ranks last among the leaders surveyed. The poll indicates a growing distance from the regime: 47% support a complete replacement of the Ayatollahs' regime, and only 9% identify with the principles of the Islamic Republic. 64% prefer the historical lion and sun flag over the current flag, and 62% oppose the institutionalized slogan 'Death to Israel'. It also emerges that about a quarter of the population (about 14 million citizens) participated in the January protests, and 80% of respondents determined that the regime acted wrongly and cruelly in suppressing the protesters. On the security front, 59% oppose the development of nuclear weapons, and 60% were pleased with the weakening of the regime during the military campaign. The public's main concern is the cost of living and inflation (76%), and only 18% fear a resumption of fighting.
