Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is currently holding discussions on appointing a new Interior Minister, after the position remained vacant for a year. The appointment is expected to be made in coordination with Shas chairman Aryeh Deri, who will only approve an agreed-upon candidate. The leading candidates are coalition chairman Ofir Katz, ministers Miki Zohar and Yariv Levin, and Interior Ministry director general Israel Ozen. Appointing Ozen, who is not a Knesset member, will require approval by a Knesset vote. Levin is Deri's preferred candidate, but there is difficulty in appointing him due to the four portfolios he already holds. Earlier this month, Netanyahu informed the High Court of Justice of his intention to appoint an Interior Minister before the elections. It was published on Kan News that he is expected to make a series of changes in government ministries.
