Netanyahu's zigzag and the connection to Yair's tweet: which woman does the prime minister support?

Confusion in the Likud field over the battle for the "new woman" slot on the party's list. After Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's associates exerted heavy pressure overnight in favor of Dr. Ruth Kabsa Abramzon, this morning (Monday) came a surprising change of direction in the form of public and official support for candidate Osnat Zani Zohar - including quick backing from Yair Netanyahu. In the evening, Zani Zohar arrived at the polling station in Rishon LeZion. Yesterday evening and night, many phone calls were made on Netanyahu's behalf to city mayors, in which his people emphasized that he wanted to promote Dr. Ruth Kabsa Abramzon - a lecturer, author, regular panelist on Channel 14, and a well-known figure on the right - for the new woman slot. Mayors even testified that following the calls, the forms were changed during the night, with the names of other candidates erased in favor of adding Kabsa Abramzon's name. When key activists wondered what would become of candidate Zani Zohar, Netanyahu's circle promised she would be found a role "befitting her many talents." But this morning there was a turn that surprised many in the party. In an unusual tweet on his official X account, Netanyahu expressed public support specifically for Zani Zohar: "Osnat Zohar has worked for years for Likud and for me. I would be very happy to see her continue her activity also in the Knesset." The move raised many question marks and sparked speculation about the chairman's true position. "The Patriots" host Yinon Magal continued to promote the line that Netanyahu actually supports Kabsa Abramzon. In contrast, minutes after the prime minister's post, at 10:56, in a manner perhaps hinting at a change of line, his son Yair Netanyahu joined the clear line in favor of Zani Zohar, while attacking other candidates: "I support Osnat Zohar for the new woman slot! Most importantly, don't vote for Keren Atias Bubil, because she's connected to Bitan, and of course not for David Bitan himself." Zani Zohar is a prominent Likud activist, known on social media as a supporter of the party and its leader. She has been in Likud for 27 years, is a lawyer and a real estate businesswoman. A well-known grassroots activist in the party, she participated in many protests and political activities on behalf of Likud in recent years. She founded a forum for preserving Jewish identity and a forum for saving the Galilee, and led a struggle against land prices in the Arab sector. On October 7, she wrote on X: "There are traitors here at the very highest levels, there is no other option!!!" When Shikma Bresler retweeted the post with the caption "The poison machine in action," she responded: "Why are you stressed about tweets about traitors?" She also shared that day: "In the morning, when this thought crossed my mind, I said, that's it, Osnat, you've gone off the rails... But now it's clear to me beyond any doubt that this is betrayal at the most insane levels that we haven't even begun to understand." On December 17, 2023, she wrote as part of a long post that "the most important campaign is the one happening inside Israel, and in that campaign we are losing!!! Why? Because there are traitors among us! We must rise up and fight all the factors that are dismantling us from within! That seek to turn this country into a multinational state, including all its citizens!" On November 6, 2025, she shared: "I wrote two years ago that the Biden administration is behind 7/10."
