Netanyahu's plan to postpone elections
A Hebrew report reveals that Israeli military officials believe Netanyahu may seek to ignite a new front in Gaza in order to disrupt or delay elections, amid human and financial attrition of the army.
Hebrew reports have revealed that senior military officials believe that Prime Minister of the occupation government Benjamin Netanyahu may seek to ignite a new front, most likely in the Gaza Strip, in order to disrupt or delay elections. Military analyst Alon Ben David of Maariv quoted these officials as confirming that they would not allow an unnecessary new war. Ben David noted that the occupation army realizes that Netanyahu does not wish to close the current battlefronts, but rather sees continued tension as serving political goals ahead of the election deadline. Israel continues to deploy its forces in three security zones in Gaza, Lebanon, and Syria, in addition to the West Bank, at a time when the military establishment faces a crisis of human and financial attrition. The average number of reserve soldiers serving daily is about 53,000, and the cost of reserve forces during one month last year reached about 2.1 billion shekels. The army has suffered heavy losses, with 1,138 soldiers killed and 11,730 wounded. The writer criticized Netanyahu's policy regarding American military aid, noting that the current agreement ends in 2028.
