Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is considering reserving spots on the Likud list for party members who were pushed back in the primaries. Yesterday, discussions in the Prime Minister's office considered reserving spots for MKs Zaga Melku and Keti Shitrit, due to the low number of women elected in realistic positions. Melku is seen as potentially bringing votes from the Ethiopian community. Also raised were the names of Minister Ze'ev Elkin, on the assumption he would attract voters from the former Soviet Union, and Hanoch Milvitsky, whom Haredi factors are pushing to reserve. In contrast, Likud MKs in uncertain positions expressed resentment and threatened to thwart the move if it is decided to reserve spots for those who fell behind. They argue that reserved spots were approved on the assumption they would bring "outside stars," not to help those whom party members signaled they do not want. Minister Elkin responded that he was not consulted about a reserved spot, and that the decision is up to the Prime Minister. The primary results were published two days ago: Energy Minister Eli Cohen in first place, followed by Yariv Levin and Amir Ohana. Tali Gottlieb in 20th place, Idit Silman and Avi Dichter not in a realistic position.
