Nicholas Rafael, the club's former treasurer, was recently suspended from his position after a photo emerged showing him raising his hand in a Nazi salute. Alongside the photo, it was revealed that Rafael likely ran an anonymous account on the social network X, where he spread harsh antisemitic and racist messages, including explicit calls against the Jewish community. However, despite the organization's official statements about his immediate suspension and the opening of an internal investigation, his ties to the club's leadership appear to remain close. According to a report published in Politico magazine, just about ten days after the affair was exposed, Rafael was seen spending time, dining, and mingling at a public event in Little Italy, New York, alongside the club's president, Stefano Forte, and another board member. This documentation raises serious doubts among party figures about the sincerity of the suspension and investigation promised to the public. In addition to the Nazi salute, further posts from the account attributed to Rafael were revealed, including one stating that 'companies thrive when Jews are expelled from the city,' along with repeated antisemitic slurs. Rafael claimed the photo was fake and denied any connection to the account, but identifying findings—including an unblurred Google profile picture and personal selfies—strengthen the evidence against him. The current incident does not occur in a vacuum. The New York Young Republicans have been considered particularly extreme in recent years, operating on the party's fringe. Only recently, the club organized controversial delegations, including a tour of a whites-only enclave in South Africa and participation in a conference in Portugal that called for returning immigrants to their countries of origin. The growing radicalization has led to a wave of resignations and dozens of leadership positions left vacant. In response to Politico, the club's lawyer claimed that Rafael is suspended from all official activities and does not participate in votes. Conversely, the organizers of the event where Rafael was seen rushed to distance themselves, clarifying that they condemn Nazi supporters and would not have allowed his presence.
