Israel's Supreme Court on Sunday, July 26, 2026, lifted the gag order on the personal details of Border Police (MAGAV) fighter Hananel Sabag, accused of causing death by negligence to his fellow soldier Yosef Rabuah. The incident occurred in Kiryat Arba on October 6, 2025, on the eve of the Sukkot holiday. According to the indictment, Sabag opened a door with a loaded weapon and a laser sight aimed at guests, and fired at close range. The bullet struck Rabuah in the chest, killing him instantly. Sabag is also charged with other episodes of negligent handling of weapons, including illegal firing and possession of a weapon. The victim's family, including his rabbi father, stated they forgave him. The case was referred to court following a petition by the Police Internal Investigations Department (MAHASH).
