Musk's Blow – How a Houthi Spokesman Lost His Social Media
Social network X blocked the account of Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree for violating rules. The profile had over 121,000 followers. Saree used it to announce attacks on ships in the Red Sea. The ban coincided with escalation: he declared a naval blockade of Saudi ships. On the ground, Houthis attacked bases in Marib and Hadramawt, killing 17 soldiers. Shelling in Najran wounded 11 civilians.
Social network X (formerly Twitter) blocked the official page of Yahya Saree, the military spokesman for Yemen's Houthi movement. At the time of removal, the profile had more than 121,000 followers. The platform stated the ban was due to systematic violation of internal rules. Saree had used the account for years to announce attacks on commercial ships in the Red Sea and report on operations against Yemeni authorities and Saudi Arabia. The ban coincided with escalation: at the end of last month, Saree announced a complete naval blockade of Saudi ships and threatened the Arab coalition. He also called on Yemen's population for total mobilization. On the ground, Houthis attacked army bases in Marib and Hadramawt provinces, killing at least 17 soldiers. The Riyadh-led coalition accused the movement of external strikes: shelling in the border area of Najran wounded 11 civilians.
