Murderer from case that shook the country in trouble again - this time in prison

Y., one of the youths convicted of murdering Muhammad Abu Khdeir and serving a life sentence, was brought to a hearing at the Petah Tikva Magistrate's Court on suspicion of possessing a cellphone in his cell illegally. The police requested to tighten his detention conditions, and the judge ordered his arrest for three days.

Y., one of the youths convicted of murdering Muhammad Abu Khdeir in 2014 and serving a life sentence at Rimonim Prison, was brought yesterday (Monday) to a hearing at the Petah Tikva Magistrate's Court. The police suspected he possessed a smartphone in his cell illegally and requested to extend his arrest for five days under stricter conditions. Police representative, Chief Warrant Officer Alon Haver, said a mobile phone was seized in the prison and there were indications that Y. was the holder. His attorney, Adv. Avichai Hajbi, argued there was no evidence linking him to the phone. Judge Sharon Danieli partially accepted the request and ordered a three-day arrest. The murder was committed in July 2014, when Yosef Haim Ben David and his two minor nephews kidnapped Abu Khdeir as revenge for the kidnapping and murder of three Jewish youths. The three beat him to death and burned his body. Ben David was sentenced to life plus 20 years, Y. to life, and the other nephew to 21 years.
