Mud-slinging within the opposition: 'It's embarrassing to see his attacks'
MK Matan Kahane harshly attacked Midan Bar after Bar expressed support for Lieberman over Eisenkot for prime minister. Kahane accused Bar of a failed attempt to join the Yashar party and of inventing shallow headlines. Bar replied that not every former IDF chief can be prime minister.
MK Matan Kahane (State Camp) launched a sharp attack this evening (Tuesday, July 28, 2026) against Midan Bar, a member of Yisrael Beiteinu, after Bar spoke for the first time since joining the party and explained why he believes Avigdor Lieberman is more suitable than Gadi Eisenkot for the position of prime minister. Kahane wrote on X: 'It's quite embarrassing to see a man who until recently tried every way to join the Yashar party and was not answered, on his first day in politics inventing shallow headlines, spitting into the well from which he so wanted to drink.' Later, Kahane addressed Bar: 'My friend Midan, whoever told you that this is how politics works – you should doubt him...' The remarks followed quotes from a Bar house party in Petah Tikva, where Bar said that 'Lieberman, not Eisenkot, should be prime minister,' adding: 'We had the Gantz story, it's the same thing, it's Gantz 2. Whoever should lead Israeli politics needs to lead. Not every former IDF chief can be prime minister.' The confrontation reflects tensions within the opposition over the race for prime minister.
