Lindsey Clancy, a 35-year-old mother of three from Massachusetts and a nurse-midwife, is on trial for the murder of her children: 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 8-month-old Callan. Clancy pleads not guilty but does not deny causing their deaths. She claims that at the time of the incident she suffered from postpartum psychosis and therefore was not responsible for her actions. Her ex-husband, Patrick Clancy, left the house in January 2023 to pick up dinner and medication. When he returned, he found his then-wife lying on the floor in front of the bedroom window, after having jumped from it and cut her wrists and neck. He called emergency services, and in the call he is heard repeatedly asking, "Where are the children?" When responders arrived, he went down to the basement and found his three children lifeless. The mother remained paralyzed in her lower body due to a spinal cord injury. Her lawyers reported that she suffered a severe spinal fracture. She struggled with depression and was even voluntarily hospitalized less than a month before the incident. Her ex-husband described her as a devoted mother but confirmed her mental deterioration. He testified that she heard a voice telling her that if she did not act, she would "miss the opportunity." The prosecution alleges a premeditated and calculated act. The trial is in the testimony phase, and psychiatric experts are expected to testify in the coming weeks.
