Moscow Couple with Netanya Apartment Discover a 1.2 Million Shekel Mortgage They Say They Never Took

A married couple from Moscow, who own an apartment in Netanya, discovered that a mortgage of 1.2 million shekels had been registered on their property without their knowledge. They claim that their documents were stolen during a break-in at the apartment in December 2024. A lawsuit has been filed against the company Magen Afikim and banks Discount and Hapoalim. This is the second similar case in Netanya.

A married couple, residing in Moscow and holding Israeli citizenship, discovered that a mortgage of 1.2 million shekels had been registered on their apartment in Netanya, which they had not taken. In December 2024, upon arriving in Israel, they found that their apartment had been broken into, and jewelry, identity cards, and bank cards had been stolen. A year and a half later, in June 2026, a representative of the company Magen Afikim informed their daughter about a mortgage debt. It turned out that the lien on the apartment had been registered back in December 2024. The couple claims they did not sign the loan documents, and the photos in the IDs presented by the fraudsters did not match their age. They filed a lawsuit in the Central District Court in Lod against Magen Afikim, Discount Bank, and Hapoalim Bank, demanding the cancellation of the lien and compensation of 500,000 shekels. This is already the second similar case in Netanya involving Magen Afikim. The company rejects the allegations, stating that the case is at an early stage of review.
