Monica Levi, a former bassist of the Israeli punk-rock band 'Killer the Hot', passed away this morning (Monday) after a prolonged battle with a serious illness. The nickname 'Monica Sex', given to her by musician Yoram Mark-Reich, inspired the name of the band 'Monica Sex'.

Monica Levi, formerly a bassist for the punk-rock band 'Killer the Hot', passed away this morning (Monday) after a prolonged battle with a serious illness. Levi, born in Romania and immigrating to Israel at age 6, grew up in Be'er Sheva and served as an investigator in the Military Police unit. During her service, she met musicians Yoram Mark-Reich and Yaron Dekel, and was part of the first lineup of 'Killer the Hot', one of Israel's first punk-rock bands. In those days, she bore her maiden name, Monica Friedman. Mark-Reich, the band's leader, wrote in a Facebook post that due to her beauty, he gave her the nickname 'Monica Sex', which years later Yaeli Sobol, Peter Roth, and their friends adopted as their band's name. Peter Roth recalled in a 2017 interview with 'Maariv' that the name was suggested by the partner of Yaeli's sister, after the bassist. 'Killer the Hot' was founded in Haifa in the late 1970s and achieved success in the early 1980s. After marrying and becoming pregnant, Levi left the lineup. She married Meir Levi, who played with the band and developed a military career. They lived in Omer, raised two sons, and she leaves behind six grandchildren. Mark-Reich wrote that about four years ago she fell ill with a serious disease, and since then underwent many treatments, but the illness kept recurring. This morning, while he was corresponding with her husband, she passed away.
