Security camera footage from Ktzi'ot Prison, published this evening (Tuesday) by i24NEWS commentator Moshe Steinmetz, reveals the preparations of 12 guards charged with negligent homicide of security prisoner Thaer Abu Asab. The footage shows 18 prison guards organizing for a violent entry into the prisoners' cell. The shift commander briefed them and made clear he would take responsibility for whatever happened. He is also charged with ordering the guards to lie after an investigation was opened. According to the indictment, the guards banded together with the intent to beat the prisoners, and attacked them with fists, kicks, and batons. The shift commander oversaw the events and himself struck one or more prisoners. After several minutes he ordered the force to stop, and the defendants left the cell without reporting the assault. The prisoner collapsed shortly afterward, was taken to the prison clinic and then to Soroka Hospital, where his death was determined.
