Moldova's Jewish community awakens anew: 'A once-in-a-lifetime event'

Israel's Chief Rabbi Kalman Ber met in Chișinău with the chairman of the Jewish community, Alex Blitsky, on the occasion of Blitsky's inauguration as the new Chief Rabbi of Moldova. The two discussed the flourishing of Jewish life, preserving the memory of the Holocaust, and establishing the country's first Jewish museum. Blitsky recounted that when he took office, only one synagogue was active, and today there are four in Chișinău. The community numbers about 15,000 people and operates in ten urban centers, with infrastructure including a library, a community center, two schools, and two kindergartens. Over the past 30 years, more than 30 memorial monuments have been erected. Rabbi Ber expressed appreciation for the activities and for strengthening ties with Israel.
