Mojtaba Khamenei Appoints Six Senior Officials: How They Will Change the Picture

Iran's Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, appointed six senior military officials to key positions in the General Staff, the Revolutionary Guards, and the Basij. Ali Abdollahi was appointed Chief of the General Staff, Ahmad Vahidi as Commander of the Revolutionary Guards, and Kioumars Heydari as Deputy Chief of Staff. Mostafa Izadi was appointed Deputy Commander of the Basij, Ali Azmai as Commander of the Revolutionary Guards Navy, and Hossein Taeb as head of the Basij. The appointments were published in six separate decrees and reported by the IRNA agency. Meanwhile, President Pezeshkian appointed Mohsen Rezaei as Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, and Khamenei appointed him as his representative to the council, following the resignation of Zolqadr.

According to six separate decrees, Ali Abdollahi was appointed Chief of the General Staff, and Ahmad Vahidi was appointed Commander of the Revolutionary Guards and promoted to the rank of Major General. Kioumars Heydari was appointed Deputy Chief of the General Staff, and Mostafa Izadi was appointed Deputy Commander of the Basij. Ali Azmai was appointed Commander of the Revolutionary Guards Navy, and Hossein Taeb was appointed to head the Basij. The notable appointment is that of Abdollahi, a pilot and Major General, to the position of Chief of the General Staff, one of the most senior positions in the military establishment. Abdollahi has held a series of command positions in the Revolutionary Guards and security forces, and later commanded the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters. Just yesterday, President Masoud Pezeshkian appointed Mohsen Rezaei as Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, and Khamenei appointed him as his representative to the council, so that he will hold two senior positions in the body responsible for shaping security and foreign policy. The appointment came following the resignation of Mohammad Baqer Zolqadr, who had issued an ultimatum to the US regarding the Strait of Hormuz.
