MKs and ministers fear primaries - and rush to ask Netanyahu for protection: the internal attack in Likud
Netivot Mayor Yehiel Zohar attacks Likud MKs and ministers who seek protection from Netanyahu, stating that those who cannot compete in the primaries do not deserve protection. Zohar warns that a list with protected slots without renewal is a sure recipe for opposition. Voting on Netanyahu and Katz's proposals takes place today.
Netivot Mayor Yehiel Zohar launches a sharp attack against ministers and Knesset members in Likud who are seeking protection from Prime Minister Netanyahu. Zohar, considered one of the strongest figures in Likud, argues that anyone who cannot compete in the national list in the primaries and be elected by 140,000 Likud members certainly cannot ask for protection. According to him, a list that includes protected slots without competition does not bring a message to Likud and is a sure recipe for opposition. These remarks come against the backdrop of the Likud Central Committee vote today (Monday) on Netanyahu and Katz's proposals to change the primary system, and as Netanyahu departs for Washington to meet with Trump. Dimona Mayor Benny Bitton expressed support for canceling the primaries and called for a temporary order given the security situation.
