Knesset Finance Committee Chairman MK Hanoch Milbitsky sent a harsh letter this evening (Tuesday) to Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana, in which he claimed that the legal counsel of the Knesset and the Finance Committee exceeds its authority, delays the work of the Knesset, and harms the powers of elected officials. Milbitsky accused the counsel of 'a deliberate policy of exceeding authority, politicization, and direct harm to the powers of the Knesset.' According to him, the counsel is not satisfied with professional opinions but disrupts work and delays approval of budget transfers. He was forced to order the distribution of budget requests before receiving the counsel's response. It was further alleged that elements in the counsel coordinated positions with the opposition ahead of a discussion, in order to limit discussion times and prevent budget approval. The letter comes against the backdrop of a documentary by Channel 14 News on the power of the legal counsel in the Knesset.
