Mayors and Social Organizations Form Education Coalition Ahead of Elections

Mayors, council heads, social organizations, and education figures have announced the formation of a 'Coalition to Save Public Education' ahead of the elections. The coalition will demand that parties commit to advancing education and present suitable candidates for education minister. Demands include establishing a national education council, budget equality between streams, and investment in education staff. Members include mayors and regional council heads from Givatayim, Herzliya, Daliat al-Carmel, Upper Galilee, and Eshkol.

Mayors, regional council heads, education department directors, social organizations, and other education figures have announced the formation of a 'Coalition to Save Public Education' ahead of the upcoming elections. The coalition will demand that parties commit to advancing the education system and present suitable candidates for the position of education minister. Among the measures it will demand: establishing a national education council and a council for Hebrew public education, ensuring budget equality between education streams, and investing in education and management staff. It will also publish position papers and studies and hold conferences on topics such as declining student achievement, shortage of education staff, gaps between center and periphery, and rising youth violence. Members include Givatayim Mayor Ran Kunik, Herzliya Mayor Yariv Fisher, Daliat al-Carmel Council Head Rafik Halabi, and other regional council heads. Rotem Yadlin, head of the Gezer Regional Council, said that public education is the foundation for the children's future. Rami Hod from the Berl Katznelson Foundation said that the last government neglected public education and deepened discrimination against it compared to state-religious and Haredi education.
