Hundreds of Haredi protesters blocked Highway 4 near Bnei Brak on Wednesday, from Geha Junction to Aluf Sadeh Interchange and Em Hamoshavot Interchange, in both directions, in protest over the arrest of a Haredi draft dodger. The protesters sat on the road, chanted protest slogans including "We will die and not enlist," and clashed with drivers stuck in traffic. Police advised the public to use alternative routes and stated that Dan District officers would direct traffic and maintain public order, emphasizing that people should avoid these areas. A police officer declared the protest illegal before using force and deploying dispersal measures. Police clarified that they view the right to protest as a cornerstone of a democratic state and allow protests within the law, but will not tolerate disorder or infringement on freedom of movement. Yisrael Beiteinu chairman Avigdor Liberman responded in a post on X: "If in this heat the draft dodgers can block roads - they can make great soldiers," adding: "After 27.10 they won't have time for blockades - they'll be busy putting on uniforms."
