Massive Storm: FIFA President Summoned for Congressional Investigation Over Ties with Trump

Democratic Congressman Jamie Raskin demands FIFA President Gianni Infantino appear for a recorded interview and disclose records, gifts, and encrypted communications with the Trump administration. At the center of the probe: allegations that Trump personally intervened to overturn the suspension of American striker Folarin Balogun during the World Cup.

Democratic Congressman Jamie Raskin, the ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee, sent a scathing letter to FIFA President Gianni Infantino demanding he appear before the committee for a recorded interview and disclose all records, gifts, and encrypted communications with the Trump administration. At the center of the probe are allegations that U.S. President Donald Trump personally intervened to overturn the suspension of American striker Folarin Balogun during the World Cup. According to reports, Trump initiated a direct phone call to Infantino and requested a review of the punishment, and shortly thereafter FIFA reversed the decision and allowed Balogun to play. Raskin demands a detailed list of any money, gift, or benefit transferred to Trump, his family, or his business organization, along with entry logs to FIFA offices. The deadline for document submission is set for August 9, 2026.
