Haiti's government condemned the "heinous attack" and promised to bolster security. According to CBC, gang violence has led to a record displacement of 1.5 million people across Haiti. According to the UN, more than 3,100 people have been killed in the country between January and June, and 1,189 others wounded. The attack occurred less than a week after the US government deported more than 160 people to Haiti, including, according to the US Department of Homeland Security, several gang members with criminal records. Haiti is scheduled to hold general elections on December 13 for the first time in over a decade, but experts have warned it is too dangerous to hold elections at this time.
