Marked as a danger - and lost his livelihood: the contractor who won a correction against the security establishment

A contractor from Ar'ara in the Negev, owner of a construction and renovation company, worked for over a decade at Ministry of Defense facilities. In March 2024, during riots in the area, two bottles suspected to be Molotov cocktails were found in the open cargo box of his truck. He was arrested and questioned on suspicion of possessing weapons, but claimed he did not know about the bottles. Forensic tests found no fingerprints or DNA linking him to them, and the case was closed. However, the closure reason was 'lack of evidence' rather than 'lack of guilt', which led to a ban on entering security facilities and the loss of a tender worth about one million shekels. Through attorney Raz Sitbon Sabag, he appealed to the Southern District Prosecutor's Office to change the reason. At the end of July, the prosecution accepted the request and changed the closure reason to 'lack of guilt', which is expected to allow him to return to work at the facilities. Attorney Sitbon Sabag stated that a police record can harm one's livelihood even after the case is closed.
