Israeli company Quantum Art and IBM have demonstrated a quantum advantage for the first time: a quantum computer performed an accurate calculation of a physical phenomenon that a classical computer cannot perform. The calculation was completed in 7 hours compared to 700,000 CPU hours. CEO Asif Sinai compares it to the launch of a first spacecraft.

Israeli quantum software company Quantum Art, together with IBM, have demonstrated for the first time a 'quantum advantage': a quantum computer performed an accurate and reliable calculation of a physical phenomenon in a domain where classical simulation cannot provide a consistent answer. IBM's quantum computer with Quantum Art's QESEM software completed the calculation in 7 hours, while a classical computer with 700,000 CPUs could not perform it. Asif Sinai, CEO of Quantum Art, said: 'It's like the launch of a first spacecraft, not yet humans inside, but we have opened the door to a new world.' The calculation was also performed on a quantum computer from Quantinuum with identical results, strengthening confidence in the findings. The research was published in a scientific paper in collaboration with Japan's RIKEN institute. Quantum Art, founded in 2020 by Dr. Asif Sinai, Prof. Dorit Aharonov, and Prof. Nathaniel Lindner, has raised $30 million.
